Libreville, Gabon (dpa) – A minute's silence is to be observed ahead of the quarter-final matches of the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea following the deaths of 74 fans at a local football match in Egypt, Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Issa Hayatou has said. In a statement issued late on Wednesday, CAF expressed shock at the tragic events that followed a game between home side al-Masry and al-Ahly in Port Said. Some 1,000 people were also injured when fans stormed the field as the final whistle blew. CAF's headquarters are in Cairo.
