DUBAI: An Asian housemaid and her boyfriend have been arrested on adultery charges by the United Arab Emirates Public Prosecution after having an “illicit” relationship that sparked after meeting through the social-networking site Facebook. The maid and her boyfriend were discovered after the owner of the house filed a complaint to the police that a “stranger had entered” the house in the early morning hours and the family's cook had seen the man attempting to escape over a fence. Unfortunately for the man and his girlfriend, he had left his passport behind, which police used to make the arrest. The housemaid confessed that she and the accused became friends via Facebook and that she had a relationship with him. She reportedly told police that her roommate had helped her by keeping a watch on family members and alerting her when someone came by. The accused man told the Prosecution that the housemaid was his girlfriend and he was involved with her in a sexual relationship. Sexual relationships outside of marriage are forbidden in the UAE and can be met with stiff jail sentences.
