CAIRO: Egypt online activists are sharing a newly posted video showing a police officer shooting a rifle at protesters, hitting one, and other soldiers congratulated him for hitting the demonstrator's eye. Online activists called for the capturing and the trying of the police officer. The video that proves the lies of the ministry of interior, which said that its forces are only armed with tear gas bombs and no other weapons, angering many Egyptians, as it proved stories of police brutality against the unarmed protesters in Cairo's Tahrir square. Among the injuries, numerous protesters have lost at least one eye while medical sources confirmed the use of live ammunition, where at least 11 people died after being hit by shotgun. The clip was filmed on Mohamed Mahmoud street, steps away from the American University campus in Cairo, just off of Tahrir square. The street has been the main scene for police attacks and the protesters ongoing efforts in forming human shields to prevent the armed forces from reaching Tahrir and attacking the thousands present. Activists have confirmed to Bikyamasr.com that they don't aim to attack or “occupy” the ministry of interior, that lies two streets away from the battle scene, but their main focus is to keep the attacks contained on the side street to protect the people protesting out in the square. Police have accused the protesters of having plans to attack the ministry and said they “get paid” to protest. The battle has been ongoing since Saturday morning and has left at least 33 dead and another 2,000 injured thus far. However, Egyptians keep arriving to the square to support the protesters and numbers are expected to rise once others get off work. BM
