CAIRO: 11 Hungarian tourists were killed in a bus crash in the Egyptian Red Sea resort city of Hurghada yesterday. 27 others were injured when the bus overturned while driving from a tourist resort to the Hurghada International Airport. The bus overturned when the driver lost control of the vehicle because he was driving too fast, officials said yesterday. The crash victims were rushed via ambulance to Hurghada's hospital. Those with severe injuries will be transferred to Cairo for further treatment, according to Youm7.com. The bodies of the Hungarian tourists will be kept at Hurghada's local hospital until their transfer back to Hungary can be arranged with the Hungarian embassy based in Cairo. Yesterday's accident is the most recent in a string of bus accidents in Egypt that have resulted in tourist casualties, including last year's December 10 accident in which eight American tourists were killed and 21 others injured. An estimated 6,000 people are killed annually in traffic-related accidents in Egypt. Many of these traffic-related deaths can be blamed on the poor road conditions and the lack of traffic law enforcement found in Egypt. BM
