CAIRO: Egypt's National Telecommunication Committee said it is adding an extra number to all mobile phones in Egypt, making them 11 numbers instead of 10, starting October 6. The expansion aims to accommodate the increase of mobile usage capacity in the country, the regulatory body said in a statement. The numbers will be changed according to the mobile company. Mobinil will add a 2 after its 01, Vodafone will add a zero and Etisalat will add the number 1. For Mobinil, that means a number that begins with 012 will be 0122, 017 will be 0127, 018 will be 0128, 015 will turn into 0125. As for Vodafone, the numbers starting with 010 will turn into 0100, 016 will be 0106, 019 will 0109, while Etisalat's 011 will be 0111 and 014 to 0114. In recent years, more and more Egyptians are turning to mobile phones and the government and telecom companies have had to look at new ways to meet the expansion needs. BM
