CAIRO: Egypt's military ruler Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi is expected to testify at the trial of former President Hosni Mubarak on Saturday. The former president is under investigation for ordering security forces to kill peaceful protesters during the January 25th Revolution. It is the first time that military ruler will testify in a civilian court in Egypt. Ahmed Refaat, the chief justice of the court trying Mubarak, subpoenaed Tantawi to testify two weeks ago. However, Tantawi failed to attend the September 11 hearing, citing security concerns following the attack on the Israeli embassy in Giza. The trial of the former president, his two sons and his former security officials has been held behind doors. BM
