As corruption continues to be a main focus of Egyptian workers, a group of Telecom Egypt employees staged a protest in front of the company's headquarters in Cairo on Friday to demonstrate against what they said was “rampant corruption.” The workers are part of a coalition of Telecom Egypt Workers for Change and are demanding the company “stop wasting public funds” and purge those responsible for the alleged corruption that has plagued the telecommunications operator for a number of years. According to Egypt's al-Ahram newspaper, the workers are also looking to have the company's board of directors and management removed. All this comes on the heels of TE reporting strong revenue in recent months as Internet use in Egypt continues to rise following the protest movement that ousted the former regime of Hosni Mubarak in February. Late last week the company, however, reported large fixed line losses due to damages and theft as a result of the aftermath of the protest movement. BM
