CAIRO: The recently appointed secretary general of Egypt's ruling National Democratic Party resigned Friday afternoon, saying Egypt needed new parties. “It's a resignation from the position and from the party,” Hossam Badrawi announced on Egypt's Al-Hayat television station. “The formation of new parties in a new manner that reflects new thinking is better for society now at this stage.” Badrawi held his position for less than a week. He was appointed on February 5 following the purging of many top NDP officials close to President Hosni Mubarak. “The revolution has succeeded,” Badrawi told Bloomberg during an interview in Cairo on Friday.
