CAIRO: The Suez Canal revenues rose by 2.6 percent, amounting to $423.4 million in December. According to the Suez Canal Authority, the revenue in November was $412.8 million, an increase of $10.6 million. Admiral Ahmed Ali Fadel, head of the Suez Canal Authority, said on Sunday that the total revenues of the Suez Canal in 2010 amounted to approximately $4,773,400,000 dollars. Fadel said the revenues in 2010 increased by approximately $483.8 million from 2009. Revenues in 2009 amounted to $4,289,600,000, an increase of 11.5 percent over 2008. The waterway is a vital source of foreign currency in Egypt, along with tourism, oil and gas exports and remittances from Egyptians living abroad. BM
