TikTok LIVE introduces new monetisation guidelines to foster authentic, positive communities
Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 29 - 05 - 2024

TikTok, the popular social media platform, has announced the rollout of updated Monetisation Guidelines for its LIVE feature. These guidelines aim to enhance the quality and authenticity of content within LIVE communities. Under the new rules, certain types of content—such as inauthentic or low-quality material—will no longer be eligible for earning money through TikTok LIVE. While most creators already adhere to these guidelines, those who violate them will receive notifications and may face restrictions on their access to monetisation features. TikTok emphasises that its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service will continue to serve as the bedrock for content standards across the platform, including LIVE broadcasts.
TikTok is also revamping its approach to welcoming and supporting new LIVE creators. With some of the industry's strictest livestreaming requirements, TikTok ensures that creators must be at least 18 years old and meet additional criteria to go LIVE. Now, eligible LIVE creators will gain access to advanced monetisation features gradually, allowing them to learn the rules while building their audience. To further assist them, TikTok is introducing a new LIVE Safety Center resource and updating its in-app LIVE Safety Education Center, providing creators with policy violation insights and educational content.
Waseem Sayegh, Head of Operations at TikTok LIVE Middle East, Turkey, Africa, and Pakistan, expressed optimism about the platform's updates. He stated, "We believe these updates will empower our LIVE community's creativity while helping ensure our features promote the positive interactions they're intended for." Sayegh emphasised that the majority of LIVE creators already adhere to safety rules and Monetisation Guidelines.
"we'll continue to build resources, moderation processes and tools that can help them foster safe, inclusive and authentic LIVE communities," he said.
