Mohamed Badie, Supreme Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood, has accused the government of violating the law, the Constitution, and the rights of candidates and voters in the run-up to the Shura Council mid-term elections. In a press conference held yesterday at the Guidance Bureau, Badie said that security forces have removed Brotherhood election campaign posters and prevented the Brotherhood candidates from carrying out their election campaign freely. Security forces have besieged the homes of candidates and surrounded the major mosques in constituencies with Brotherhood candidates on Fridays to prevent Brotherhood supporters from organizing election marches, he said. Badie emphasized that the Brotherhood insists on its slogan of "Islam is the Solution," saying this conforms with Article 2 of the Constitution. "We will track down those who violate our rights using legal means," he added. In a related development, the Supreme Constitutional Court two days ago rejected a request by Entisar Nessim, head of the Supreme Electoral Commission, to remove Brotherhood candidate Ashraf Badr Eddin from the list of candidates in the Ashmoun constituency of Monufeya. Nessim had requested Badr Eddin's name be removed due to the use of "religious slogans" in his campaign. In its ruling, the court said that on investigation it cannot be proved beyond doubt that the website which contains the religious slogans was created by the Brotherhood candidate in question.
