Swiss delegates vow cooperation to restore smuggled money
Published in Almasry Alyoum on 11 - 05 - 2011

A Swiss government delegation vowed on Tuesday to fully collaborate with Egypt to restore the illegal money transferred abroad by former Egyptian officials, including the assets of former President Hosni Mubarak and his two sons.
The Swiss delegation of eight senior officials from the ministries of justice and foreign affairs made the pledge during a meeting with the Egypt's judicial panel, which the ruling military council appointed in April to investigate Egypt's missing funds.
Judiciary sources said the panel seeks to retrieve the money smuggled abroad by Mubarak and 18 former officials.
Head of Egypt's Illicit Gains Authority (IGA) Assem al-Gohary thanked the Swiss government for taking the initiative to freeze the assets of the officials as soon as the ousted president stepped down without waiting for an official Egyptian request. He urged the delegation to continue to cooperate with the Egyptian government.
An official from the Swiss delegation said his country would never allow illegal funds to be hidden on its soil.
President Hosni Mubarak remains in custody at a Sharm el-Sheikh hospital, pending investigations over charges of financial corruption and approving the killing of protesters during the 25 January revolution.
Earlier investigations revealed that the wealth of Mubarak, sons Gamal and Alaa and his wife Suzanne exceeded their official income.
