The Egyptian public prosecution has begun questioning 11 Tunisian Esperance fans arrested Sunday for assaulting several policemen following a match with Ahly in the first leg of the African Champions League semifinals held in Cairo, judicial sources said. Ahly won the match 2-1. The two teams will meet again on 16 October in Tunisia. Ten police officers were injured in the clashes. The Tunisian spectators lit flares--which are banned in Egyptian stadiums--and started ripping out the seats and throwing them onto the pitch, according to security sources. Should Ahly lose with a one-goal difference while registering one goal in the upcoming match, it will secure a place in the finals. Esperance needs at least a 1-0 win to advance. Riots are common in football matches between north African teams. FIFA imposed a penalty on Egypt in May after Egyptian fans attacked a bus carrying the Algerian national team. The Algerians were in Egypt to play a key 2010 World Cup qualifying match.
