Majority MPs vs. Government on a Football Pitch
Published in Almasry Alyoum on 05 - 03 - 2009

The majority MPs have defied the government and formed a team to play against it in a football match whose income will be allocated to a tumor institute.

The idea came from ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) MP Mohammed el-Banna. He said he took this idea from the Turkish parliament, adding that during his latest visit to the Turkish capital, he discovered that the Turkish parliament has football teams as well as teams for other group games.
Al-Masry Al-Youm got a copy of the line-up of the majority team: the Head of the Youth Committee Sayed Gohar as a goalkeeper; the Undersecretary of the Legislative Committee Ibrahim el-Gogari, and MPs Mohamed Abul Magd, Mohamed Moselhi and Baha Abu al Hamad as defenders; MPs Mohammed al-Banna and Alaa Mekkawi as midfielders; Ahmed Ezz, chairman of the Plan and Budget Committee, Gamal el-Zeini, El-Husseini Abou Qamar, and Ahmed Shobeir, Undersecretary of the Youth Committee, as strikers.
MP Kamal el- Shazli will be the coach and Dr. Zakaria Azmi will be the general supervisor.
Taking advantage of Finance Minister Youssef Boutros Ghali's injury at his left eye, the team suggested he should play as a goalkeeper in the government team.
The MPs also proposed that Housing Minister Ahmed el-Maghrabi, Planning Minister Othman Mohamed Othman, Transportation Minister Mohamed Mansour, and Health Minister Hatem el-Gabaly should play as defenders;
Agricultural Minister Amin Abaza and Petroleum Minister Sameh Fahmi as midfielders; and Education Minister Yousri el-Gamal, Higher Education Minister Hani Hilal, Military Production Minister Said Meshal, and Local Development Minister Major-General Abdel Salam Mahgoub as strikers.

El-Banna said the MPs' team of the MPs had no independent or opposition MPs because the NDP represents the majority in the parliament.
