The People's Assembly (Parliament) Speaker Mohammed Fathi Sorour filed a report on the parliamentary session, which ended yesterday. He said: "The Parliament held 134 sessions, which lasted for 532 hours and 20 minutes. The number of MPs who talked about the problems of their constituencies reached 414, including 307 from the ruling National Democratic Party (NDP), 6 from Wafd Party, an MP from Tagamo'h, another from Ghad (tomorrow) Party, a third from Al-Dostour, and 98 Independent Deputies. The number of MPs who talked about their problems increased compared to several previous sessions. However, 35 deputies, including 22 NDP and 7 Independent MPs, have never talked about the problems of their constituencies. They are described as "statues". In his speech yesterday on the occasion of the end of the parliamentary session, Sorour said the NDP MPs made 8848 questions against 4703 by the Independents, 487 by Wafd Party, 82 by Tagamo'h, 87 by the Constitution Party, and 94 by Ghad Party. The joint subcommittees held 1257 meetings and filed 1220 reports.
The Parliament discussed 43 draft laws, 112 bills on financial accounts and budgets, 95 proposals, and 2204 requests for notification, of which 1467 were answered orally. The Parliament also discussed 1467 urgent questions, Sorour added.
The Assembly had 43 interpellations, 9 of which were dropped in time for discussion. The Parliament answered 295 questions and discussed 26 requests to make a public debate, and 438 proposals.
Questions about the government's supervision were discussed in 202 hours and 10 minutes, legislation in 186 hours 25 minutes, the endorsement of conventions and treaties in 117 hours and 30 minutes, and problems about the parliament's membership in 26 hours and 15 minutes. Sorour pointed out that the Parliament discussed 72 questions on the Assembly's membership.
