Former housing minister charged with corruption
Published in Almasry Alyoum on 10 - 01 - 2010

The Public Funds Prosecution heard yesterday the testimonies of housing officials and employees in 6th of October and New Cairo concerning the report charging former Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Development Mohamed Ibrahim Suleiman with corruption.
In their testimonies, officials from the ministry said Suleiman is guilty of embezzling public money and illegally allocating plots of land to his relatives, children, and business associates. The Administrative Control Authority (ACA) provided the evidence, according to the official sources.
The officials denied involvement in the violations and emphasized that they weren't yet in the ministry during Suleiman's term. They also explained to Tareq Ateyya, head of Public Funds Prosecution, how the process of plot allocation is carried out, highlighting that the ministry puts up land for sale and accepts the highest bid.
The prosecution also allowed the officials to view documents submitted by the ACA, which carried the signature of the former minister, and the officials affirmed that they amounted to violations.
The prosecution has also decided to form a committee to determine what violations Suleiman committed, which plots of land he allocated to relatives and associates, and the names of those who worked under Suleiman to summon them for testimonies. Suleiman is scheduled to testify on Tuesday.
