Up to 252.176 million cubic meters of water-saturated sand have been dredged from the new Suez Canal Corridor, reaching a 24-meter depth in a distance of 57 km out of 72 km, Engineer Ahmad Farid, Deputy director of Suez Canal Dredging project said Tuesday. Nearly 95.79 percent of dredging works have been finalized in the new Suez Canal, Farid asserted, adding that all the dredging works will be finished by the end of July. The new Suez Canal which is due to open on August 6 will increase the capacity of the existing canal allowing ships to pass north and south concurrently.
