Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Abdelatif bin Rashid Al Zayani and U.S. ambassador to Yemen, Matthew Tauler, discussed Monday efforts to maintain security and stability in the country. Al Bawaba News reported Tuesday that the GCC General Secretariat issued a statement late Monday saying that Al Zayani had discussed the latest developments in Yemen with Tauler, currently exercising his duties from Jeddah. The two officials also discussed efforts to support Yemeni President, Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi to maintain security and stability in the country. The two sides also sought the completion of a peaceful political process, in accordance with the Gulf initiative and the outcomes of the national dialogue. A senior US official at the embassy in Jeddah confirmed that Washington was working and will continue to work with the Yemenis and the international community to support the process of political transition in the country. The US official added that his country's work is in line with the GCC's initiative, the outcomes of the national dialogue, United Nations Security Council resolutions, and the Yemeni law.
