A series of explosions hit Cairo this morning killing two people and injuring eight, Health Ministry Spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said today. The bombs were planted in the Mohandisseen district of Giza Governorate, in front of the outlets of two telecommunications providers: Vodafone and Etisalat. The explosions shattered the shops' glass fronts but no one was injured as the branches were closed when the bombs were detonated. Another bomb exploded in front of a famous restaurant in Embaba, Giza, killing one person and injuring two others. Six people - including four policemen - were injured when a bomb exploded in front of a police station in El-Waraq district in Giza, a security source told Al-Ahram's Arabic news website. Four other bombs were defused near Qubba Palace and in other locations. Police cordoned off streets in the areas where the bombs had been planted, in order to check for other devices. The planting of small bombs in public spaces reportedly by Muslim Brotherhood supporters has increased in recent months, with the aim of aborting or delaying Egypt's economic forum, planned for next month.
