A COMMUNICATIONS company in Egypt is about to shift its power source from diesel fuel to solar energy, reports Mahmoud Bakr. Sherif Eissa, director of health and environment at the company, says that the project aims to reduce consumption of electricity and diesel. In a bid to integrate solar energy into its power sources, the company will phase out some of the diesel generators and replace them with solar panels. The new system will be particularly helpful at communications stations situated beyond the reach of the national electricity grid. The measure will reduce reliance on organic energy and thus minimise greenhouse effects. The company will submit a report on its action to the UN Conference on Climate Change.
