AHLY'S handball team defeated Zamalek 29-22 in the group stage of the Egyptian Super Cup to draw level in points with Sporting of Alexandria and Al-Geish. Said Abdel-Moneim, head of the Egyptian handball team's competitions committee, announced that because the three teams had collected the same number of points, he will call for the establishment of a three-team tournament to determine the champion of the Super Cup. The tournament will be held on 27, 28 and 29 May. At the Youth and Sports Hall in 6 October City, Ahly dominated Zamalek who opted to play the group stage with their under-21 team to try new faces, especially since they had qualified for the African Clubs Champions as league winners. Sporting defeated Al-Geish 33-32. Ahly and Sporting now have seven points, the same as Al-Geish. Zamalek failed to get a single point. Ahly will face Sporting on the first day, before Sporting face Al-Geish on the second day. Al-Geish and Ahly will play on the last day. Meanwhile, after a board meeting last week, Ahly's President Mahmoud Al-Khatib decided to terminate the services of the club's handball coach, Slovanian Nicola Marcovitch, together with assistants Mohamed Adel and Tamer Adel. Al-Khatib chose Yehia Youssef as the new coach. Youssef previously coached Ahly's U-21 team. Khaled Abdel-Fattah will be his assistant and Mohamed Suleiman takes on the goalkeeping coach until the end of the season.
