Petrojet move five points clear on top in Egyptian league
Petrojet consolidate their position on top of Group B with a 2-1 win over lowly Minya in the Egyptian Premier League on Tuesday
Published in Ahram Online on 25 - 03 - 2014

Petrojet are on course to reach the final phase of the Egyptian Premier League as they moved five points clear on top of Group B with a 2-1 victory over lowly Minya on Tuesday.
Bottom side Minya, who look highly unlikely to retain their top-flight status, claimed a surprise lead, thanks to a fifth-minute goal from Mahmoud Qaoud.
Ahmed El-Shennawy brought Petrojet level just three minutes later and striker Marwan Mohsen gave them all three points with a 54th-minute goal.
Minya had a late goal disallowed for offside as Petrojet held on to continue their fine run.
They have 25 points from 13 games, five ahead of second-placed Ismaily who have a game in hand.
Petrojet's victory is likely to increase pressure on Cairo giants Zamalek, who are seventh with 15 points but still have two matches in hand on Ismaily and three on Petrojet.
Should they win the rescheduled games, they will be one point short of Petrojet and one ahead of Ismaily in a tight race for the two places that earn qualification for the final mini-league.
Elsewhere, third-placed Haras El-Hodoud defeated Qanah 1-0 while Ittihad El-Shorta beat Masry 1-0, thanks to a super volley from striker Khaled Qamar.
