Palestinians honor slain Arab-Israeli actor Palestinians hold a memorial for Juliano Mer Khamis, an Arab-Israeli actor and film maker who was shot dead in Jenin
Scores of tearful Palestinians have held a memorial service for a popular Israeli-Arab actor who was shot dead outside the theater he founded in the West Bank town of Jenin. Tuesday's memorial for Juliano Mer Khamis took place at the Freedom Theater, the amateur stage company he founded in 2006 to restore normalcy for the town's youth after years of bloodshed with Israel. Mer Khamis, a political activist who was killed Monday, was adored by his followers, but also infuriated many in this conservative town with his outspoken views that criticized Israelis and Palestinians alike. The theater's co-founder, reformed militant Zakiriya Zubeidi, says it will go forward with its work, despite suspicions the killers objected to its activities.
