Cabinet reshuffle to be announced early next week: Egypt PM Qandil Egyptian Prime Minister Hisham Qandil says details of upcoming government reshuffle will be announced early next week, stressing decisions have 'yet to be finalised'
An anticipated ministerial reshuffle will be announced early next week, Egyptian Prime Minister Hisham Qandil has said. In a Monday press statement, Qandil said discussions over the impending reshuffle were still "ongoing," stressing that ministerial changes had "yet to be finalised." He went on to say that certain reports in the Egyptian media regarding would-be ministerial appointments were "untrue." In a Saturday interview with Al Jazeera, President Mohamed Morsi said that a cabinet reshuffle – a months-long demand of Egypt's political opposition – would be announced "soon." Morsi asserted that ministers whose performances had positively impacted ordinary Egyptians would remain at their posts, while those who had not would have to go. The president, however, did not reveal whether Qandil would remain at the helm of the government or be replaced. The upcoming cabinet changes are expected to be accompanied by a reshuffle of Egypt's 27 regional governors.
