Hundreds of Ahly's hardcore fan group, Ultras Ahlawy, marched from the club's headquarters to Tahrir Square on Friday to commemorate the death of their colleague, Mohamed Mostafa 'Karika', who had been killed last year in the clashes that erupted between protesters calling for an end to the military rule and army forces.
Verses of Quran were played in the epicenter of the uprising in commemoration of his demise.
The Ultras protesters also took the opportunity to call for retribution against those responsible for the Port Said massacre, which saw more than 70 Ahly fans, mainly from Ultras Ahlawy, killed on 1 February when they were attacked by Masry supporters, following an ill-tempered league match in the coastal city.
The protesting Ultras Ahlawy members also deplored the release of police officers accused of killing protesters during the January 25 Revolution, and the killing of Salafist Sayed Belal days before the 2011 uprising.
Since playing a vital role in standing against Mubarak's security forces during the January 25 Revolution, Egyptian Ultras group have become strongly involved in the country's domestic affairs, having featured in many demonstrations over the past two years.
