Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry discussed the recent developments along Lebanon's southern borders with Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Al-Hariri by phone on Sunday, the ministry said. During the call, Shoukry asserted Egypt's keenness on Lebanon's stability, according to a ministry statement.
The conversation was part of Egypt's efforts to stop the current escalation, as part of the historical role of the country in keeping peace and stability in the region, the statement read.
The foreign ministry added that Egypt is closely following the situation in Lebanon and is in contact with all parties involved in order to protect stability in Lebanon and to avoid further crises in the Middle East.
Hezbollah said on Sunday it had destroyed an Israeli military vehicle across the border, prompting retaliatory fire from the Israeli army. The Lebanese army said Israel had fired 40 cluster and regular bombs at the Lebanese side.
