Blatter asks EFA to provide reasons for violence FIFA President Sepp Blatter has asked the Egyptian Football Association for details on the causes of the stadium riot that killed at least 71 fans
The tragedy Wednesday followed Al-Masry's league match against Al-Ahly in the Mediterranean city of Port Said. After speaking Thursday morning to EFA President Samir Zaher, Blatter wrote to him asking for “further news from you concerning the circumstances of this tragedy.” Blatter says he “fully understand(s) the country's shock and anger that such a disaster could have come to pass.” He adds that “we must take steps to ensure that such a catastrophe never happens again.” Earlier Thursday Egypt Prime Minister Kamal El-Ganzouri announced that he had sacked the board of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) and a handful of government officials because of Wednesday's evening in violence between Ahly and Masry fans.
