Barcelona midfielder Seydou Keita has been named Mali's Sports Personality of the Year for 2011. The ceremony that was held in Bamako Sunday came just three days after the 31-year old finished second in the CAF African Player of the Year award, following his teammate Yaya Toure. Despite returning only four months ago after a year of absence, Keita helped his Spanish side Barca claim all the year's titles; the Champions League title, La Liga crown and the Club World Cup. The former Sevilla, Lens, Lorient and Marseille star rebooked his place in Mali's squad for next month's 2012 African Cup of Nations tournament in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea after coach Alain Giresse recalled him in September for the first time since January 2010. Keita, the winner of the Golden Ball in 1999 FIFA U-20 World Cup, holds 63 Caps with his national team with 17 goals scored.
