The Sawiris Foundation for Social Development, along with the board of the Sawiris Cultural Prize, has announced the shortlist for the prize for young novelists and short story writers for its 12th edition. The shortlist for the Novel section includes Ahmed El-Fakharany for his novel Mandorola, Alaa Farghaly for his novel Khiralla El-Gabal, Mohamed Rabea for his novel Atared (Mercury), young Senegalese writer Mostaga Moussa for his novel Ala Ferash Freud (On Freud's Bed), and Hedra Guirgis for his novel Sayyad Al-Mala'ika (The Angels Hunter). The shortlist for the short story collections section includes Ahmed Magdy Hammam for his collection El-Gentleman Yoheb El-Kadaya El-Khasera (The Gentleman Prefers Lost Causes), Doaa Ibrahm for her collection (A Second Funeral for a Lonely Man), Sherin Fathy for her collection Al-Batala la Yagaeb An Takon Badeena (The Heroin Should not be Fat), Taha Abdel-Moneim for his collection Thalathat Tamareen to Write Like Milan Kundera (Three Exercises to write Like Milan Kundera), Mamdouh Abdel-Salam for Sarab Azraq (Blue Mirage), and Adowda for Hind Gaafar. The scenario shortlist includes Mistika and Rihan by Dina Abdel-Salam, Afaal Adya (Traditional Acts) by Sayed Omar, Sahabet Seif (A Summer's Cloud) for Sherif Zohairy, Wadi El-Naml (Ants Valley) by Hala Salah and Ayesh (Alive) by Haitham Dabour. The Sawiris Cultural Award is a prestigious Egyptian literary prize established in 2005 by the Sawiris Foundation, a human development organisation set up by the wealthy Sawiris family.
