South Africa announces Ivory Coast friendly Still smarting from its failure to qualify for the African Cup of Nations, South Africa will play Ivory Coast next month in its annual Nelson Mandela Challenge friendly
South African Football Association chief executive Robin Peterson said on Thursday Bafana Bafana will face a “very, very strong” Ivory Coast after the top-ranked African team named Chelsea pair Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou, Manchester City's Yaya and Kolo Toure and Arsenal's Gervinho in a 21-man squad for the 12 November game. SAFA vice president Mwelo Nonkonyana added he hoped the game would help South Africans “wipe the tears” from their eyes after failing to reach next year's African Cup. The Challenge will be played at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth.
