The Democratic Coalition for Egypt, which consists of over 30 political parties including Wafd and the Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party, has had its first meeting to discuss the upcoming parliamentary elections. The coalition's first meetingwas held at Wafd's headquarters and was attended by representatives of all its parties. Wahid Abdel Meguid, head of the coalition's electoral committee, said the meeting was held to discuss the criteria which their candidates for the parliamentary elections must meet. Apart from citing a good reputation, popularity and competence as conditions for candidates, it was stressed that it would not permit any candidates who had connections with the dismantled National Democratic Party (NDP) or the State Security Intelligence. The coalition's list of candidates will consist of candidates who have won or lost in previous parliamentary elections, as well as those who will be taking part in the elections for the first time.
