Ahly's coach Jose boycotts post-match conferences Manuel Jose will stop attending press conferences in protest at EFA fine and expresses his concerns ahead of the match against ZESCO
Ahly's Portuguese coach, Manuel Jose has fired back at the Egyptian Football Association (EFA), asserting that he will not attend any press conferences after league matches. “I will not show up at post-match press conferences anymore,” Jose was quoted as saying on the club's official website. The angry announcement comes after the EFA fined him LE15,000 for his failure to attend the press conference after his club's match against El-Geish. The 61-year old tactician left the press conference in objection to El-Geish coach Faouk Gaafar's absence. “It's unfair. They should have fined Gaafar first because he didn't attend,” said Jose after being hit by the fine last week. EFA regulations stipulate that either the coach or the football director must attend post-match press conferences, a detail Jose was not aware of as European leagues require the coach to be present. “No problem, I respect the regulations so I will always delegate one of my assistants to the conferences,” Jose added. Jose also confirmed that Ahly's goalless draw with Zambia's ZESCO in the first-leg of round of 16 in the African Champion League was tricky because both teams will have equal chances in the second-leg. “I understand that the home game will be dangerous but we will be ready,” he said. The continental clash is scheduled to be played on 8 May. In other news, Ahly's injured striker Emad Moteb will undergo a medical examination after suffering a dangerous tackle during a friendly match against Wadi Degla. Meanwhile, Mohamed Fadl will return to training on Wednesday after recovering from a calf strain. Defender Sherif Abdel-Fadil has rubbished reports that he will leave Ahly after being omitted from the starting eleven.. Ahly are third on the Egyptian League table with 32 points, six behind their rivals Zamalek who are soaring on top.
