Egypt suffers partial cuts to internet, phone calls Fire in communications centre in Alexandria causes telecom shortage in Egypt, as country's main fixed-line operator says services should resume soon
Egypt's fixed-line monopoly operator announced earlier on Tuesday that its data and call services have been partially interrupted nationwide due to a fault in one of its fibre cables. According to an official source at Telecom Egypt (TE), the cable was disconnected after a blaze in the communications centre in Alexandria, which affects the services of the country's mobile operators, mainly Mobinil and Etisalat. "Data transfer services have been 100 percent stopped, while 45 percent of voice calls have been affected," the source, who preferred to remain anonymous, told Ahram Online. TE tweeted that the damage happened in the fibre cable, which links between Cairo and Alexandria, and that the management is working to fix the problem. ## For its part, EgyptAir, the country's main airline carrier, said that the sudden cut in Internet services caused two-hour delay in flights. Al-Ahram's Arabic news website reported that services of data-calls have partially resumed in several areas nationwide. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/102824.aspx
