CAIRO: The Egyptian High Electoral Committee (HEC) is considering ways of applying the court verdict of Egyptians abroad right to vote in the upcoming Egyptian elections, HEC chairman Abdel Moez Ibrahim said. He added applying the court verdict needs legislative amendments. The Egyptian Administrative Court on Tuesday October 25 ordered the Egyptian government to form electoral voting centers in Egyptian embassies worldwide to enable Egyptians abroad to vote in the upcoming elections. The law of elections assures the elections will be conducted under full supervision of judges and will not be under supervision of ambassadors or consuls. Thus the committee is amending this provision to facilitate the process of Egyptians abroad right to vote, he added. The law also stipulates voting should be made with a national ID, the amendments aim to also allow Egyptian's abroad to vote with their passports, according to Ibrahim. The committee discovered there is no database for Egyptian abroad and there are also those who did not register in embassies of other countries they live in, Ibrahim noted. There is a study to allocate a certain number of Egyptian electoral committees monitored by judges who choose their representatives in the electoral centers aboard. In another story, October 29 is the deadline to receive complaints about the nomination for the parliamentary elections.
