WASHINGTON: The Egyptian April 6 Youth Movement will be reviewing the status of the January 25 Revolution, the future of Egypt and the next steps needed to best coordinate with the U.S. to meet the goals of the Arab Spring. In a session titled, “And Then What for Egypt?,” organized by the Arab American Center, April 6 Youth Movement Coordinator Ahmed Maher discussed the youth's role in triggering the Egyptian revolution. He also discussed current challenges facing those seeking democracy after the 30-year rule of ousted Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. After the Egyptian State Security Investigation Body was dissolved, the Movement used online social networks like Facebook and Twitter to spread its ideas, reach a huge youth population in Egypt and coordinate with other activist groups. The Movement's main objective is to reach the people in the Egyptian street because the Internet is not available to everyone, Maher said. In another session called “A Look from the Earth – Egypt's Inspiration and U.S. Interests,” Arab American Center Chairman James Zogby and his colleague Brian Katulis tackled Arab public opinion regarding the United States as well as current Arab-U.S. relations. Both Zogby and Katulis presented an analysis about the impact of the situation in Egypt in the post-Mubarak era on U.S. policy going forward.
