The Minister of Electricity and Energy gave five billion EGP (U.S. $837.9 million) worth of investment in north and south of Sinai, through the implementation of several electricity projects, said the Minister of Electricity, Hassan Younes. The minister said in press statements he reviewed an important report this morning about the position of the electricity sector in provinces of South and North Sinai. He said there was marked improvement with an additional 200 subscribers linked to the grid. The minister emphasized the importance of Sinai as the core of electricity interconnection projects in the Levant, which is represented by the construction of two electric towers. It will be 220 meters high and cross the channel carrying a 500 KV line, crossing Sinai to link networks of electricity between Egypt and Jordan. The ministry will improve electricity through the transformer station in Taba in South Sinai, which feeds transformer stations of Taba, Nuweiba, Dahab and Sharm el-Sheikh and eventually connect with Saudi Arabia. “We overcame all obstacles linking the national grid in Sinai, where it was linked to from under the canal over the canal, air lines and cables in the ground,” the ministry added.
