Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak today issued an apology for the incident two days ago on the Israeli-Egyptian border that resulted in the deaths of three Egyptian security forces. Many in Egypt consider the apology to be “weak.” The apology comes after a meeting with Israeli Army Chief of Staff General Benny Gantz and other heads of security where security officials discussed the strategic importance of the 1979 peace treaty. Barak praised the Egyptians for their prudence and responsibility regarding the border incidents and said that military authorities are initiating an investigation into the deaths of the three Egyptians. Shalom Cohen, former Israeli ambassador to Egypt, arrived in Cairo this morning on a diplomatic mission, sources told Youm7. Cohen met with officials in Cairo at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relayed a message from the Israeli government, sources said.
