CAIRO: Salafist preacher Hazem Shouman said the message of today's gathering of Islamist movements in Tahrir Square reached all of the “enemies of Islam.” He said this is the beginning of a stronger wave of Islamists descending to the streets. "God ordained that the square in which Huda Sharawi took off her niqab and disobeyed Islamic teachings would also be the square in which thousands demanded the return to the teachings of the prophet,” he said. “Had we not feared for our women, thousands of women in niqab would have come to the protest." Sharawi was a prominent 20th century Egyptian feminist. Shouman called for Egypt's ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces to “seize this opportunity" and ally themselves to the “cause of Islam.” Youm7 reported earlier today that there was a strong presence of women wearing the niqab, a veil which covers the entire face except the eyes, among the Islamist movements during today's ‘Friday of Unity' demonstrations
