CAIRO: Kamal Hassan Ali, the recently appointed Sudanese ambassador to Egypt, arrived in Cairo and took up his position at the Sudanese Embassy in Garden City today. He will be filling the post vacated by Abdel-Rahman Sir el-Khatm, the former ambassador in Cairo, who will now take up the Sudanese ambassadorship in Ethiopia. Hassan Ali, Sudan's former Foreign Minister, expressed his dedication and desire to maintain a good relationship between his country and Egypt. Sudanese Embassy spokesman Abu Bakr Hunin said Hassan Ali emphasized the importance of this partnership, particularly after Egypt's January 25 Revolution and the recent joint visits between Egyptian Prime Minister Essam Sharaf and Sudanese Prime Minister Omar el-Bashir. Hunin also said that despite the recent division of Sudan into two separate nations, the administration and oversight of the one million acres of land designated for cultivation by Egypt will occur, even though the land is in what is now South Sudan. Both sides, Egypt and Sudan, are enhancing their diplomatic relationship, he said, in order to facilitate the large agricultural project. Wheat, a staple grain for Egyptians, will be grown on the land in South Sudan. Hunin said the implementation of the project will take time.
