CAIRO: An Egyptian center for developing women's skills organized 40 workshops to train 600 women and girls from different social classes, including housewives, college students, and employees, to start small businesses in cooperation with non-governmental organizations. The workshops aim to lower unemployment among women. Women's unemployment has increased since the January 25 Revolution, said Zeynab Safar, the center's supervisor. Zeynab presented the center's achievements over the last three years in a symposium at the end of the 2010/2011 training course. The center also trained around 10,000 women, teaching them computer skills and helping them establish small projects within Egyptian markets. The center also provides support to women via their website www.cleostore.com. It has prepared 531 feasibility studies in different fields. Hanan Goveil, a breast cancer radiologist, said during the symposium that more than a million women get breast cancer every year. She stressed the importance of self-examinations for protection from the disease. The center for developing women's skills was established in 2002 to support and empower women economically to build the required skills to be a productive member in the business world.
