Egypt's diesel fuel crisis is expected to end on Friday, said Mahmoud Nazin, an official of the Ministry of Petroleum. Nazim said traffic liquidity will help vehicles transporting diesel fuel to supply all stations with extra amounts. Nazim told Youm7 that the General Authority of Petroleum (GAP) pumps around 33-34,000 tons of diesel fuel daily. Amounts were raised to 40,000 tons a week ago. Nazim said there is no crisis in the supply of diesel fuel or of butane gas. He said the GAP is committed to meet the people's petroleum needs. The crisis began as a rumor, which led vehicles to queue to get extra mounts to reserve, said Nazim. Diesel fuel has been smuggled in gallons and sold at high prices. The queuing of vehicles and microbuses slowed down the movement of supplying trucks, which delayed their arrival at stations, said Nazim. Nazim said the GAP faced no obstacles in importing. He said that Egypt produces 75 percent of its diesel fuel consumption while the rest covers imports without causing any shortages.
