Alves, Neymar lead Brazil Olympic squad
Published in FilGoal on 12 - 05 - 2012

Brazil coach Mano Menezes has chosen 23 players for warm-up games ahead of the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, including the likes of Daniel Alves, Neymar and Alexandre Pato.
The Selecao will open their Olympic campaign against Egypt on July 26, with Menezes selecting what he labeled as the base of his squad in London.
"It's correct to affirm that these 23 names are the base of the Olympic team," the Brazil boss said.
"It's unlikely we will make any changes. After making evaluations in the last few months, we think these are the names (for London)."
The list included six players over the age of 23 in David Luiz, Thiago Silva, Jefferson, Alves, Marcelo and Hulk.
Santos wonderkid Neymar and AC Milan star Pato were also among the big names in Menezes' list.
There was no place, however, for veteran playmaker Ronaldinho, who helped Brazil win the bronze medal in Beijing four years ago.
"I previously thought he deserved to be called up but not this time," he added.
"But you have to respect Ronaldinho, he is a world champion. He is they type of player who can rebound and surprise everyone."
The squad:
Goalkeepers: Jefferson (Botafogo), Neto (Fiorentina), Rafael (Santos)
Defenders: Daniel Alves (Barcelona), Marcelo (Real Madrid), Danilo, Alex Sandro (both Porto), Thiago Silva (AC Milan), David Luiz (Chelsea), Bruno Uvini (Tottenham Hotspur), Juan (Inter Milan)
Midfielders: Casemiro, Lucas (both Sao Paulo), Sandro (Tottenham Hotspur), Romulo (Vasco da Gama), Paulo Henrique Ganso (Santos), Oscar (Internacional), Giuliano (Dnipropetrovsk)
Forwards: Alexandre Pato (AC Milan), Hulk (Porto), Leandro Damiao (Internacional), Neymar (Santos), Wellington Nem (Fluminense).
