New factory to combat drug shortage

The global pharmaceutical quality controls have already been adopted by the local industry, Dr M. Moustafa Hamed, the Minister of Health and Population, said during the lying of the foundation stone of a new drug manufacturing
facility.
The new factory will be built at 6th October City and is very important due to its contribution to providing the local market with effective and high quality pharmaceutical products at suitable prices, the Minister added. Otherwise, the new factory represents a remarkable addition to investment in the pharmaceutical sector.
Dr Hamed pointed out that the previous project would create new job opportunities and transfer technology to other such facilities, using the most up-to-date production mechanisms. Otherwise, the new factory will play an essential role in raising exports of Egyptian drugs, he added.
Concerning drug safety, the Minister pointed out that there is a comprehensive management plan for the pharmaceutical sector, starting from production, storage, and distribution to ensure that drugs reach patients and consumers safely.
According to Dr Mohamed Abdel- Gawad, head of the Pharmacologists Association , the Egyptian pharmaceutical companies are providing the local market with high quality drugs which represent an essential social demand. He noted that opening such new factories are considered the ideal solution to the drug shortage problem. Otherwise, these investments are contributed to raise the confidence of Egyptian drug manufactures and set a climate of pharmaceutical investment.
For his part, Dr Mounir Armanious, board chairman of one of drug companies, stressed that the new factory will meet the needs of citizens for effective and safe drugs. Additionally, it will create 1,100 jobs opportunities.
