Egypt is Arab Games champion in Qatar

CAIRO - Egypt grabbed the title of the 2011 Arab Games that took place from December 9-23 in Doha, Qatar. The Egyptian athletes are topping the general standing of the games with 233 medals - 89 gold, 77 silver and 67 bronze.
Tunisia is second with 138 medals, (54 gold, 45 silver and 39 bronze) and Morocco on third place with 113 medals (35 gold, 24 silver and 54 bronze).
Qatar is fourth with 110 medals (32 gold, 38 silver and 41 bronze) and Algeria fifth with 88 medals (16 gold, 31 silver and 40 bronze).
Saudi Arabia is on sixth place with 45 medals (15 gold, 12 silver and 18 bronze) and Kuwait on seventh with 63 medals (13 gold, 19 silver and 31 bronze).
Iraq is eighth with 58 medals (11 gold, 13 silver and 34 bronze) and Jordan ninth with 47 medals (11 gold, 13 silver and 23 bronze).
Qatar hosted the 12th edition of the Games ahead of the 2022 Football World Cup, which will also be held in this Gulf State.

Seven gold medals for karate
Egypt snatched two more gold medals on the final day of the karate competition in the Pan-Arab Games, which concluded yesterday in the Qatari capital Doha. Egypt's players were on first place with seven gold medals out of sixteen.
Morocco came second with three gold medals and Tunisia and Algeria shared the third place with a bronze and two gold medals. Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) shared the last place with one gold medal each.
The Egyptian team defeated its Tunisian counterpart in the final 3-0, while Algeria and Morocco shared the bronze medal.

Gold for volleyball
The Egyptian men's team grabbed gold after defeating its Qatari counterpart 3-0 (25-20, 25-20 and 25-10) in the final of the volleyball competition; the Qatari team came second with silver and Algeria got bronze when beating Kuwait 3-0.
The Egyptian women's team also snatched gold and the first place when defeating its Algerian counterpart in the final 3-1 (25-23, 25-19 and 25-20), while Algeria came second and the UAE third.

Gold and silver for cycling
Tunisia won a gold medal in the women's cycling race, while Egypt came second and Jordan third.

Bronze for Egypt's basketball
Qatar grabbed the gold medal in the men's basketball competition when defeating Jordan in the final 78-70; Egypt came third when defeating Tunisia in the final 81-71.

Gold for Egypt handball
The Egyptian men's handball team grabbed gold after defeating its Qatari counterpart 26-21 in the final.
The Egyptian team achieved two new records in the game with Sudan. The first one was an incredible score line of 26-0 in the Pharaohs' favour at half-time; the second was a stunning final score of 58-5. The Egyptian handball team won the Arab Games title three times after starting its success with a victory over Morocco and surprising them with 46-19.
In the women's final, Algeria snatched the gold medal; Tunisia came second while bronze went to the Jordanian team.

Gold for chess
Egypt's national team for men won the gold medal, Qatar came second and Morocco third.
In the women's competition, Algeria got the gold medal, Jordan came second with silver and the bronze medal went to the Egyptian team.

Several medals for taekwondo
Egypt's taekwondo players snatched gold, silver and bronze.
In the women's 67kg individual competition, Jordan's Nancy Abu Badr grabbed gold, while Egypt's Hend Moustafa came second and Morocco's Hakima el-Meslhi and Sudan's Miriam Mahmoud shared the third place.
In the women's 46kg competition, Egypt's Aya Ali won gold, Jordan's Christina scooped silver and Tunisia's Fadia el-Farhani and Morocco's Naiema Nader shared bronze.
In the men's 58kg individual competition, Egypt's Tamer Bayoumi grabbed gold, while Libya's Mohamed Telish won silver and Qatar's Mohamed Daher and Yemen's Yasser Moterif shared third place and bronze.
Morocco's Taekwondo player Essam el-Sharnoubi grabbed the gold medal in the men's 80kg, while Jordan's Nabil Hassan came second and Egyptian Mahmoud Saied and Qatari Mohamed Daher shared the third place.

Glory for Egyptian swimmers
Egypt's men team grabbed the gold medal in the 4x100m competition with a time of 3:37.46 seconds, Tunisia came second with only 0.3 sec less and Kuwait finished third with 3:51.94 seconds.
Egypt dominated the swimming competition at the 2011 Arab Games, with the women grabbing all four gold medals, while Tunisia stole the show in the men's competition.
In the 200m women's competition, Egypt's Hania Moro grabbed gold, while Tunisia's Sarah al-Genif snatched silver and Jordan's Sarah Hina bronze.
In the 100m women's competition, Egypt's Farida Othman grabbed gold, Algeria's Foula Bin Nasser settled for silver and Lebanon Katia Bashroush scooped bronze.
In the 50m women's competition, Morocco's Sarah el-Bakri grabbed the gold medal, Egypt's Mai Moustafa cornered the silver and Tunisia's Sarah Lejeif bagged the bronze.
In the men's 200m individual competition, Tunisia's Osama el-Molloli snatched the gold medal, while Kuwaiti's Youssef el-Sukkari picked up silver and Egypt's Marwaan Hilal scooped bronze.
"I am happy and proud about the swimmers achievements," said el-Molloli, stressing that a bigger number of talented Arab swimmers should be vying for medals in global competitions.
In the 50m men's competition, Tunisia's Wassem el-Loumi snatched gold, while his teammate Tilal Mirabet settled for silver and Egypt's Ahmed Bayoumi and Algeria's Nabil Kabaab shared the third place.
