CAIRO - Egypt's Interior Ministry Sunday issued guidelines for motorists to follow up to avoid road accidents due to the heavy fog covering areas in northern and southern areas which is expected to continue Monday. "The guidelines help motorists and citizens deal correctly with heavy fog especially in the early morning in order to reduce rates of road accidents," read a statement from the Ministry. The statement cited 15 guidelines such as sticking to instructions of the traffic policemen, cleaning the car's windscreen, using a faint front light, reducing speed, using windscreen sweepers and never to stop on a foggy road whatever the reasons were. "Drivers are asked not to pass the cars in front of them or drive their cars very close to them," the statement. An Egyptian meteorological official said Sunday this time of year is characterised by thick fog and mist, which reduce visibility to less than 50 metres and could disturb land and air traffic. "The fog is expected in early morning hours outside cities across the nation for the next week," the official said.
