Meet Yehia Abouseif: Artist & designer hailing from Cairo and now based in New York
Published in Daily News Egypt on 26 - 03 - 2023

Yehia Abouseif, a versatile artist and designer hailing from Cairo and now based in New York, has made quite a name for himself in the art and design world. Abouseif's portfolio spans across a wide range of mediums, including digital and motion design, pastel drawings, and adobe sculptures.
Growing up in Egypt, Abouseif's passion for the arts and storytelling was instilled in him from a young age. He has since pursued a career in motion design and visual storytelling and has worked for well-known brands such as Samsung, Coca-Cola, Ralph Lauren, and The Row. Abouseif's ultimate goal is to become an art director, but he never loses sight of his true passion – his artistic practice.

Abouseif began exploring different media and styles while studying art history at the British International School of Cairo. He experimented with Cubist-style oil paintings, classical chalk and charcoal, wire sculptures, and photography. Abouseif credits his teacher, Peter Jenkinson, for pushing him to use his critical eye and hypercritical personality to create meaningful work. Although moving to New York gave him access to world-class cultural institutions and the city's arts scene, he still values the profound impact of Egyptian history and visual culture on his creative mind.
As a motion designer at Wunderman Thompson, Abouseif merges his creative practice with his client-facing work. He faced numerous challenges when entering the workforce during the COVID-19 pandemic, but his persistence and adaptability paid off as he transitioned from freelance web design to a full-time graphic designer, then motion designer, and ultimately an art director.

Drawing inspiration from his cultural heritage and surroundings, he is currently spearheading a digital art series and collaborating with tapestry makers to further hone his skills. Abouseif believes that everyone has the potential to be creative and encourages his community to nurture their artistic abilities.
Abouseif's multifaceted artistic talents and unwavering commitment to his craft make him an inspiration to aspiring artists and designers everywhere.
