Health Ministry announces establishing 18 dialysis units in public hospitals

Egypt's Ministry of Health and Population announced on Monday the establishment of 18 dialysis units at the ministry's hospitals, including 9 children's dialysis units. All units were provided with 83 dialysis machines, in addition to providing the ministry's hospitals with 257 dialysis machines within the plan of replacement, renovation and openings during the past year.
Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, said that new water treatment plants have been installed in Mit Salsil Hospitals, the Kidney Center in Shawami, Azizia, Bani Obeid Specialist in Dakahlia Governorate, Nasser General Hospital in Beni Suef and Shebin El-Qanater in Qalyubia Governorate, Hurghada Hospitals, the Suez Medical Complex, Suez Diets, General Edfu, Menouf Diets, Qantara Sharq, and in Ismailia Governorate.
Moreover, the ministry has provided 6 water treatment plants for Toukh Central, Sherbin Central Hospital, Minyat Al-Nasr Central, Juhayna Central, Nagaa Hammadi and Al-Obour Central Hospitals, in preparation for installation and operation.
Abdel Ghaffar added that 2,000 kidney chairs are being provided, pointing out that 81 kidney chairs have been supplied and installed and distributed to Al-Salam Specialist Hospital, Rawd Al-Farag Children, Ras Sidr Central, Sharm El-Sheikh International, Bani Obeid Specialist, Ismailia Medical Complex and Shabramant Central.
Mohamed Hassanein, the Head of the Central Administration for Therapeutic Medicine, indicated that physiotherapy service has been provided for dialysis patients in most hospitals affiliated with the Ministry of Health, in preparation for its generalisation at the national level. Peritoneal dialysis sessions have also been activated as a first stage in 4 hospitals in Dakahleya and Sharkeya governorates.
