Published in Daily News Egypt on 06 - 12 - 2022

Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat met with members of the Communications and IT Committee in the House of Representatives headed by Representative Ahmed Badawy at the headquarters of Egypt Post Authority in Ataba on Tuesday.
Talaat said that the ministry is currently working on preparing a number of legislations to be submitted to the House of Representatives, including a law for classifying and exchanging data, and a law for emerging companies in order to establish virtual and remote companies and benefit from electronic signatures.
He explained that working sessions are currently being held with start-ups to get a closer look at the challenges they face, work on developing appropriate legislation to overcome any obstacles, and benefit from the experiences of successful countries in this field.
Talaat added that in 2022, the ministry started a programme to host electronics manufacturers in Egypt, including Nokia and Vivo. Discussions are also currently underway with OPPO and Xiaomi to open factories in Egypt, and negotiations are being held with Samsung to expand its factory in Beni Suef. He pointed out that it was agreed with these companies that the percentage of the local component in the electronics industry should be no less than 40%.
The minister also said that by the end of 2022, the construction of about 2,800 mobile towers will be completed to improve mobile services provided to citizens, in addition to establishing 1,000 mobile towers in the villages of the Decent Life initiative.
