Egypt's Parliament approved in its extraordinary session on Saturday the appointment of Ahmed Issa as the new Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, replacing Khaled El-Anany.
Issa was CEO of Retail Banking at CIB before being selected as the new tourism minister. He was responsible for strategy formulation and execution across CIB's consumer banking and business banking and was a member of the Management Committee.
According to the official website of the CIB, Issa has extensive experience in the banking field, as he started his banking career in 1993 in CIB and was later promoted up the ranks within the CIB Corporate Banking and Investment Banking Divisions between 1995 and 2001. In 2001, however, he took a two-year study break to earn an MBA at UNC-Chapel Hill's Kenan-Flagler Business School.
Throughout his career, Issa served in several positions, such as managing director at CI Capital Investment Banking, head of research at CIBC, head of strategic planning at CIB, head of the financial institutions group at CIB Corporate Banking, group CFO at CIB, chairperson of the Board of Director at CORPLEASE — a leading lease finance company in Egypt — and chairperson of the Board of Directors at Falcon Group.
Moreover, he served as a non-executive board director at the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt, an independent non-executive director at Egypt Air Holding, and a member of the MasterCard MENA Leadership Council.
Also, he was appointed by the prime minister of Egypt in 2017 to sit on the Board of Egypt's Trade Development Authority.
