Egypt's Ambassador to the European Union (EU), Badr Abdel Aty, has met with Secretary General of the European Commission, Elzy Johansson, to follow up on the results of the visit of Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, to Egypt in mid-June.
They also discussed various issues of cooperation, including food security and energy.
The two sides emphasized the importance of maintaining the momentum in bilateral relations and contributing to strengthening various cooperation frameworks, especially in the field of energy with its traditional, renewable and clean sources, including the production of green hydrogen.
They also reviewed the ongoing preparations for Egypt's hosting of the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) next November.
Johansson stressed the commitment of the EU to provide all kinds of support to the Egyptian presidency during its hosting of the next climate summit, in the framework of substantive and logistical preparation.
She pointed to the EU's confidence in Egypt's ability to make this summit a success and produce tangible results that contribute to the implementation of what was agreed at the Glasgow summit.
The meeting addressed the global food crisis and the challenges of food security, where it stressed the need for the EU to provide support to the countries most affected by the current crisis in connection with securing their needs for wheat and cereals, as well as addressing the huge rise in prices of food and basic goods.
